Ugh. Well, as of 3 months ago we were right there with you. -----Original Message----- From: Martin Blackstone [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 12:57 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: software patch status
Yes I could if I had AD :) -----Original Message----- From: Matt Hoffman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 9:56 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: software patch status Well, you could just set the GPO for your servers to download the updates and then notify you that they are ready to install, thus allowing you to choose which get installed. -----Original Message----- From: Martin Blackstone [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 12:51 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: software patch status I don't know whether to be happy or pissed. I'm not real thrilled with the idea of SP's being automated. Particularly if you use SUS for servers. An example is a Compaq server. Anyone who has ever SP'd one knows that the SP will ask if you want to over write the RAID driver. If you say yes to this, there is a good chance your server will not survive the SP. So what does SUS answer when it does the SP. BTW, I don't let SUS touch my servers. -----Original Message----- From: Seth Connolly [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 8:25 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: software patch status Don't know if you noticed, but as of yesterday, SUS does support service packs. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/windowsupdate/sus/default.asp "Software Update Services now provides Windows service packs (SPs), in addition to critical and security updates. SUS will deliver Windows XP SP1, Windows 2000 SP4, and all future service packs for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and the Windows Server(tm) 2003 family of products." We've recently evaluated these products: SUS - Free, but doesn't support service packs GFI LanGuard - $900 for unlimited IP, not a complete solution as it needs SUS for patch management. Has other security features though. UpdateExpert - $2000 for 150 machines. Complete solution, but seems buggy. Not impressed with tech support. More difficult to learn and use than... HFNetChk Pro - $3000 for 150 machines. Best support, best interface. Most expensive. We selected HFNetChk Pro.
