But only for relative targets, with approximations,
and the reverse is not true. For instance the Windows-type
symlinks depend on whether the target is a file or a
directory, and there is no provision for other types
(sockets, etc.). Linux applications sometimes create
symlinks before the target exists.

Do not forget that ntfs-3g is a file system striving
to be such that Unix applications do not know they
are not running on ext2. Posix conformance has priority
over Windows emulation.
