Ah yes, JP, that left andright did the trick. I almost (but not quite!)
discovered that myself, since when you gave me righttext, I quickly
worked out that there would be a lefttext as well, and was doing some
experimentation with other potential options... but it might have taken
me a while to stumble on it, so thanks.
By the way, I didn't need that comma. My fault. When I gave you the
earlier result, I omitted the comma that author had already produced.
And thanks for the extra little comment on the /Nichomachean Ethics/. Of
course, I am just the typesetter, not the author of the passage in
question, though I am also reasonable well-versed in Aristotelian
philosophy, which is why the author chose me I suppose! So I will pass
on your comment to him.
As for Kirk's observation about the 'intersentence' space... I have to
say I am not noticing that. I tried out his \null\ but it did not appear
to do anything in this particular case. I'll keep an eye on it for
future citations should something occur. For now, it's on to those other
citations, which, yes, include the expected canonical references to q.
qq. and a and ad from the /Summa/! But I think I am now equipped to
handle all that with your help, so should not need to bother you again.

Nearly there, so to get parentheses around it and produce (Aristotle,
ca. 350 BCE/2009), this is how I treated the entire paragraph where
the citation appears:
