i know it's crap :)  however, it would at least identify for you the
systems with the redhat 9 glibc oddities.. and as I said, it wouldn't
work for other OSes - but it wouldn't make things any *worse* than they
are now - it would just provide that extra information for you, when
people are using systems that are RPM based and have an /etc/issue file
(redhat, suse, turbolinux, mandrake, any unitedlinux) - would cover a
fair bit of people, most likely, and you're no worse off in the case
where someone's using something different.  Just have the autogenerator
put a text input field if it can't determine the libc version and ask
the user to supply it manually.
