Sorry, but the ?s didn't sound like you had read the FAQ - ntop 3.1's
docs/FAQ begins:

TOP 10 - the questions everyone asks...

Q1(a). Can I store data in a SQL database?
Q1(b). When ntop stops I lose all my data. Why?
Q1(c). Why doesn't the -S option work?

In the FAQ are two suggestions for searching the lists - the google one is
now probably the best...

Q2. The archive isn't indexed, so I can't search it.
A. Use gmane: http://search.gmain.org (lists are called
gmane.linux.ntop.general
and gmane.linux.ntop.devel) or use Google with the keyword ntop and the
site
   option "site:listgateway.unipi.it" plus your query:

        site:listgateway.unipi.it ntop freebsd

Putting the HTMLed version of some of the key documents in SourceForge is a
good idea - unfortunately, they want HTML and so the rrd paper (a .doc file)
won't convert w/o quite a bit of work (although I could post a Q&D pointing
at the file area). But the man page and faq can be done easily.

Did that. Wouldn't post to a group if I didn't read the FAQ.

Sorry about this, I did look for a method (even tried emailing the bot a
help command to see if I could get it that way). Gave up (maybe too
quickly) when I didn't see any option. Now that you say it here I find 3
different links in a matter of minutes. Maybe more emphasis could be placed
about it on the info page
(http://listgateway.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop) since it sort of blurs
into the legal disclaimer above it.
Also I don't see a search feature for the list archive
(http://listgateway.unipi.it/pipermail/ntop/) anywhere, which makes it a
very daunting task to go through it.

I saw that, went to SF and found.....nothing Doc Man
(http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=17233) is empty. After some more
searching (a lot more) I found it in the downloads section.
Maybe a link from the doc manager to that would help confused newbs like
myself? Or even a link from the FAQ to the download might be useful.

Anyway thanks for the help and your time spent on helping this newb with a
really dumb question and keep up the good work,
