You'd be surprised what it can do as far as telephony. You might want to look.

Don't apologize - we have Lync 2010 in house, and are using it for IM and 
videoconferencing between our offices.

But I don't recall it being a full-blown substitute for a phone system like 
ShoreTel, MiTel, etc. Oh, how I wish it were...
