Experienced tech

I will send someone to look at that for you, please have your backups available,
as well as any install discs your licence codes for the software. You will need
to be there while the system is worked on so that you can provide ID's and
passwords for accessing the system.

(That's your back covered, and someone else lined up for the blame!)

User: I am having problem with "x". Can you take a look while I am at lunch?

Inexperienced tech: "Yes, no problem" Proceeds to mess with PC before making
sure the user has saved and closed open documents.

Experienced tech: "Please save and close any open documents or applications to
make sure you don't lose any work since this may require a restart of your
computer."

Inexperienced: it's ok to delete those files
Experienced: I will move those files somewhere until we are sure they're safe to
remove

Despatched via Blackberry. Mock if you will, but it gets my email without a

How to tell if an IT person is experienced or not:

Inexperienced tech: "Yes, this will definitely fix this issue"

Experienced tech: "This is supposed to fix the issue, but give me a call and let
me know if it actually worked"
