My previous reply assumes that he has a cable certifier , that's part of the
toolkit (stripper, crimper, puncher, certifier)

But I guess its moot now, since they aren't willing to pay.

Hiring a Krone tester for a couple of days might be even better as you can then
have a certified and calibrated report of each and every connection end to end.

Is the client physically accessible, is it feasible to go and test his wiring?
If it's not a HUGE network it maybe worth it.

I had a similar issue once, it was quicker to get a kid and pay him 50 bucks,
take him to the site and test the lines, sure enough I found a few shorted
cables, and 2 punches that 568-A when everything else was B.

Running the new lines and re-punching paid for the kids labor tenfold :)

in terms of software , you can use hostmonitor (30 day trial) to run ping
tests (among hundreds of others)

Hi All,

Do you have any favorite network troubleshooting tools you recommend? My
client keeps complaining about slowness and work not being saved. I have a
feeling it could be cabling or a faulty
switch. The switch is not managed so I do not have any monitoring tools
there. A ping test comes back ok after a few hours so I’m looking for some
more advance tools that can be run 24/7 on all machines in the office.

I’m not looking to monitor anything on the machines, other than packet loss or
connectivity issues. What are you favorite tools or suggestions?

TIA

-JT
