The exact same thing just started happening to my system. I patched for Code Red a while a go. I reinstalled IIS just to be sure and it stayed running for a day then went down again.   You can ping the site, you can't connect. IIS use to say that the service was stopped, now it doesn't. It is strange as the server is not crashing it is just saying that the connection with webmaster was lost. I don't know how it can lose connection with itself. I am trying to figure this thing out. I think it has a lot to do with my isp. I use Winpoet to connect. It shuts off now and then without notice. The net card that goes to the DSL modem gets its static ip and dns info from the isp. So if the winpoet connection goes then maybe that is the culprit.
