I'm not sure how much you're really saving -- Windows is built around GUI, with subpar text support. Notepad++ is pretty speedy and relatively lightweight (for a Windows program). The one I have open right now has a working set < 2 MB. Certainly Emacs won't beat that. :) And N++ can be dropped on a network share and run from there -- no need to install it on every host you use it on.
