Windows 7? Turn the firewall back on, and then set it to allow anything in or
out in your profiles. I've seen strange things like this in Win 7 with the
firewall turned off.

Bad Arp cache entry for the laptop?

Check the ARP value on the laptop as compared to what you have in your
router/switch. I have seen that in the past cause the issue you are talking
about.

Subject: Unable to ping -- why?

I have a single laptop in our department that I cannot ping.
The user in question is able to access all network resources.
Windows firewall is off, and no other firewall is running
I have verified that all DHCP & DNS entries are correct.
The user can ping anything on the network.

Other symptoms:
The machine loses connection to one server periodically.
This is indicated by the fact that his computer shows the "offline" tray icon.
Any time this happens, he can choose "synchronize", and he always is back
online.
He can access any internet/intranet site w/o problem at any time.

Switch port counters show no problems.
Changing switch port makes no difference.

Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Regards,
