In my case we kept really old systems and I pulled as much hardware out of retiring systems as possible to keep the existing one running. I had the system IP'ed to a dead end and the firewall blocked all requests for that NIC to access anything beyond it although the Lab Manager was very pissed about this. He had the idea that all systems in the lab were his personal property and I should not be managing HIS systems but he should. The principle operator of the system had a bad habit of browsing to sites that he had been repeately warned to stay off of from office systems. Upper Management only backed me up to a certain point. I had the top person tell me to my face that if anyone objected to what he was viewing they should stay out of the lab! This was a State research facility under a University, go figure.
