Oh, you've seen at least some of his work, I think. He director LOTR.

However, before that, he did The Frighteners (highly recommended!),
and some cheesy schlock horror stuff, along with the movie that won
him his bid to direct LOTR - Heavenly Creatures (also highly
recommended!)
