I have used this linux based solution at a few small businesses and have had very good luck with it. I've heard it can be a little picky about hardware but I haven't had much trouble with it. I'm pretty sure there is a VMWare image out there for it. It has very good reporting and the interface is very easy to use. It's java based so it's a little more resource hungry then some of the others like IPCop. They have a paid version that includes AD integration but I have never used it so can't say whether that works well or not.
