Nortel has some good edge switches. The 4500 series has several models
with 10/100/1000 ports, and you can get them with or without POE.

The switches perform well, are easy to manage via web gui, cli, or
Device Manager client.

I wouldn't worry about no stinkeen financials, either...

Ever since 3Com abandoned the enterprise switch market and left us
hanging, I've avoided their products like the plague.

Subject: edge switch (to the desktops)

All,

Less than a month ago some people chimed in about core switching, but my
question is for edge switches. We have some aging 3com 3300's that we
are looking to replace. I'd like to move to the gb models to the
desktop considering our 3300 stacks are connected to a 3812 which has an
aggregated gb link to a core 3870 in the server room.

Any thoughts on models? 3com 4500G (over $2000), Dlink dgs-3100(under
$1500)? Price is a factor but we won't buy cheap to be cheap.

Thanks,

Jake Gardner
