There a sidebar gadgets, that you can put anywhere on your desktop. There are also sideshow gadgets (which run on a secondary display - e.g. external display on a laptop, or the second display on your Dell XPS desktop etc)

I am not looking at that at the moment. I am trying to get the look and feel. UAC seems to be quieter but will still prompt. There is now a way to turn it off without having to dig for the menu item.
