We never got a chance to deploy Eset to replace McAfee. It's a shame,
because McAfee is a complete joke, even at their "platinum level" of
support.

Eset came up with a tool to completely uninstall McAfee and install their
own product without even an reboot. McAfee can't come up with a tool to
uninstall their own product completely. When I was having a problem with a
server install, they gave me a huge document full of manual registry keys to
delete. They can install them, they can list them, but they can't automate
the uninstall.

A couple weeks ago I posted a problem with stuff McAfee detected as a buffer
overflow, couldn't delete, and then couldn't even detect on a full scan.
Several freebie products, however, had no problem detecting and cleaning it
up.

The rest of the story doesn't get better.

It is difficult to configure. It is not all that easy to deploy. In order
to deploy new versions, you have to first uninstall the existing version.
In the six months I've used it, on one occasion they issued a database
update which completely hosed any computer where it installed. This was an
automatic update. In that event, Eset Tech Support had no fix other than to
rebuild the computer. On the three other occasions that I've needed to call
Eset Support, I found them to be less than knowledgeable and helpful about
the product and the questions I had.

Carol - curious - why NO to NOD32. What is your experience with NOD? Also,
how many users/devices are/were you supporting with ePO?

NO to NOD32

I know this isn't a popular point of view, but I used McAfee and ePO for
years, and they never failed me.

What do you guys like (besides Vipre, obviously! :-)) for
antivirus/anti-spyware/anti-malware/etc? Our AVG is coming up for renewal in
January and I'm not sure I want to renew it. I am considering Vipre,
although I thought the interface (on the home version - didn't have a spare
server to set up the Enterprise trial) was a bit "clunky" due to having to
"white list" an app in several different places. :-(

I'm also considering purchasing a bunch of licenses for Malware Bytes so I
can have that on every desktop. I'm also thinking about F-Secure/F-Prot. I
know that one of our vendors uses and recommends Kaspersky and I have used
them in the past at home. Any others?

The idea of using a Microsoft antivirus doesn't sit well with me.. Of course
there's always the argument of "they know where the security holes are so
they can protect them." But my answer to that is, "well, if they know where
the holes are, they can fix 'em and not charge me for an antivirus product!"
:-)
