I'm not sure what you mean by "Dell are now selling with minimum acceptable
RAM" - what exactly do you mean?

You are not going to get a laptop with 2 SoDIMM slots with 16GB of RAM because
8GB SoDIMMs do not exist.

That said, every major vendor sells x64 Windows as an option, and up to 8GB of
RAM. You also mentioned desktops, and it's pretty trivial to get high end
desktops and workstation class machines that have 8+ GB of RAM.

Cheers
Ken

It looks just DELL ,now, are selling with the minimum acceptable RAM ,but it is
difficult to think how to make a 2 slots laptop being equipped with 16 GB

My Dell Precision M4400 came with Quad Core and 8GB ram and shipped with Vista
64bit. I have installed Windows 7 64 on it.

I wonder wether Brands likeHP,Dell,Acer will start to sell desktops and laptops
with 64 bit edition and a consequent amount of RAM installed
