Well, we've got a project in the works (mainly just getting budgetary numbers at this point -- trying to whittle it down to about 3 vendors) to get a couple SANs and mirror them, then back one of them up to tape. To do the tape backup, we'd need a small server anyway, so I might just make that machine a DC and not worry about a virtual machine. :-) That way, I'd have a DC at our "D/R" site anyway. It would definitely speed up authentication, etc. although that's not really a problem right now. :-)

Create a VM and promote to a DC and then transfer roles if you wish. Others have had problems with AD database after P2V of DC. If I get the "cheap" version of VMWare, can I do that, or do I need to get the "enterprise" class of VMWare. Any other virtualization software that would work (well) and not be super-expensive to P2V our Win2K3 DC?
