Also in those days, people didn't do a whole lot of traveling, either. Mostly stayed within about 50-100 miles of where they were born, so there were strong roots to that community/state. These days, those roots are almost non-existent for the most part. I was born in Mississippi, and have lived in Florida, Nevada, New York, California, Idaho, and Hawaii. And I'd really like to move back to the South somewhere... someday.
