I just spent the better part of the day replacing the batteries in an APC 2U Rackmount UPS. Two of the four batteries had swollen and nothing was going to get the battery tray to slide out. What's worse is APC's cabinet design. They put a flange on the top front of the battery tray opening whose only purpose is the make sure you can't get a swollen battery out. And then you have to half-disassemble the whole UPS so you can use a pry bar to remove the batteries out the top, ripping the double-sided tape they use to hold the batteries to the tray. I think APC wants you to throw out the UPS when this happens.
Are other UPSs this fiendishly designed? I've been annoyed by APC for the last couple of years on a number of issues and this one has me seriously considering their competitors. Any recommendations? Thanks. ---------------------- Bob Hartung Wisco Industries, Inc. 736 Janesville St. Oregon, WI 53575 Tel: (608) 835-3106 x215 Fax: (608) 835-7399 e-mail: bhartung(at)wiscoind.com ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- You are currently subscribed to ntsysadmin as: [email protected].
