That's not to bad, and it would be great to have it virtualized and not have to
worry about hardware failing and being down a day waiting for replacement.

Got pricing: $1,000 one time fee for VM. You actually have per user licensing
with the VM. $160 per 100 users for a year.

I ran in to the replacement issue on my web filter, turned out it was
much cheaper to just buy a new box. I wonder how they price the virtual spam
appliance. They obviously can't sell any hardware warranties with it.

Good things about the barracuda that standout are no per user licensing
and easy to setup for multiple domains with or without ldap lookups. Since
looking at other options, I really like the ease and flexibility of how it
handles domains.

One bad thing that negates some of its price savings: While software
support is included in your yearly licensing, hardware support is not. You
have to purchase their instant replacement service in addition and it costs
about the same as a yearly software/energize updates.

We have a client that had a mirror fail near the end of a three year
license on a barracuda 400. Options from barracuda: Pay $700 and ship it to
them. Turnaround of at least 3 weeks. Other option: Pay $3k for the past
three years of instant replacement coverage and they will overnight a box.

So, you can get a 400 box with five years of updates bundled with it
for $8k, but you need to also pay $4k if you want barracuda to help with a
hardware failure.

+1 on the Barracuda, been using one for 4-5 years now. Using
global policy and once I had the spam and ham trained it was set and forget.

                Barracuda.

No per-user fees, very configurable and awesome tech support.
I had them at %previousjob% and am trying like heck to get them in at
%currentjob%.

They'll even send you a 90 eval unit for free if you want to
try it out.

                Folks,

I'm in the market to replace my current spam filter. Google
Message Security looks pretty good as a service, although it's pricing for us.
I've heard good things about Barracuda SPAM and Virus filter, as well as M+
from Messaging Architects. Sorry Sunbelt, we don't run Exchange so your
product is out.

Anyone have any comments on those products and have any to add?
I would for the most part like something to be configured and not to have to
constantly tweak it. Also users need to be able to see what's blocked and
unblock a message if they want.

                Thanks,

                Tom
