Good things about the barracuda that standout are no per user licensing and easy to setup for multiple domains with or without ldap lookups. Since looking at other options, I really like the ease and flexibility of how it handles domains.
One bad thing that negates some of its price savings: While software support is included in your yearly licensing, hardware support is not. You have to purchase their instant replacement service in addition and it costs about the same as a yearly software/energize updates. We have a client that had a mirror fail near the end of a three year license on a barracuda 400. Options from barracuda: Pay $700 and ship it to them. Turnaround of at least 3 weeks. Other option: Pay $3k for the past three years of instant replacement coverage and they will overnight a box. So, you can get a 400 box with five years of updates bundled with it for $8k, but you need to also pay $4k if you want barracuda to help with a hardware failure.
