ldap lookups (hopefully this is fixed): when i setup ldap lookups for the domains , i realized that the DC (server 2003) answering ldap requests was slowing down. lsass.exe memory usage was huge in task manager. googling around seemed to suggest that if you have barracuda make requests to global catalog port rather than ldap port this would go away. it did.

i never really used it for outbound, but did set it up to send outbound for one of our customers when they went cheap with cable company for ISP and everyone started blocking mail from their IP address. I quickly found out that any outgoing mail actually relayed from the barracuda to the server you specify under administration tab for mail relay for admin alerts and reports. this doesn't really make me happy and maybe is fixed in later firmware.

this 400 is on old firmware, so maybe both of those issues don't exist anymore.

Folks,
We are replacing our current e-mail spam/anti-virus filter with a Barracuda 400. The admin guide looks pretty straightforward for the various settings. Looking for any recommendations as to particular settings, lessons learned or gotchas as it were. We plan to start with inbound filtering, add outbound once that is stabilized. I plan to use port redirection and keep my current MX record unaltered, if that matters. Comments, suggestions appreciated. Tom Miller
