I came across RVGun on github when I was looking for the same thing. It uses RV 
as a gateway for artists to upload media w/selectable thumbnail and shot 
information into shotgun. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated since 2010, and 
is broken with the current version of RV. There are some demo videos showing 
what it did though.

our pipeline on ... a shotgun aware Python script to load/save/update nuke
