Yes. Having a thread on random distributed encoders next to a thread on Cygwin's .bashrc (recent example) seems odd.
The old Numenta forums were subdivided into even more narrowly defined categories which I think didn't hurt either. You only don't want to narrow down the scope of a mailing list to the point that the emails are so far and few between that the list seems dead.
