Log files attached.
The -head version is before patching.

Note that I still have trouble starting mge-shut - 50+% of the time it 
says "Unable to get Report Descriptor"

I'll leave it running for a bit and see how it goes, thanks!

Hmm I can test with another UPS (MGE Ellipse 1000), hopefully a bit
