just to add - I saw some weirdness with svc.startd which resulted from
/etc/nsswitch.nis being in place and having no interfaces configured. startd
was trying to establish the method context to restart a service and looking up
a project id, but since that name service lookup went through nis, it hung and
no further SMF operations would happen. As we were discussing, the root cause
is likely the fact that the User location (that specifies NIS as a nameservice)
is manually enabled, and as a consequence applied even when there is no
network. The solution, I think, is to strictly apply the NoNet location to
cases where no IP NCUs are online, overriding even manual location selections.
I've cc'ed Nita as this location behavioural change has documentation
implications I think.
