Integrated Development Environment ... what exactly is emacs and vim? i have a lot of stuff integrated in my vim and it does help me develop very efficient. emacs is probably _the_ integrated development environment. calling emacs just an editor makes obvious you never used it in anger.
IDE does not mean mouse support and many colorful memory hogs. my vim has project support, tabs, syntax highlighting could do command completion, function completion and what ever you can get out of the shiny ones that are mentioned here ... just in text mode.
