Google has been on record in the past (don't recall where) saying they
don't care about file extensions or lack thereof. So long as the page
serves a 200 header and the URI isn't stupidly long and containing too
many querystring variables, it really doesn't matter. Whatever URI
format you choose is more a decision about usability / maintainability /
asthetics than it is about SEO.
The main reason search engines hate dynamic-looking URIs is that it
usually results in the spider getting into a big-ole-loop and being
forced to look at thousands of pages that are all basically duplicates.

Hi Adi
Why would / do search engines care what your page's file extension is?
My (fleeting and shallow) research shows that opinion is pretty evenly
divided between with and without extension, and that SEO gain by
adding any file extension is marginal at best.
