It's my understanding that Debit cards have different liability terms and conditions to credit cards which see the cardholder wear more of the liability if it's used fraudulently. IIRC this only kicks in if you leave it longer than 48 hours to notify the bank. I'm sure this varies from bank to bank, and things could well have changed since I last checked it out.

The other issue with debit cards is that they don't always work. We had a couple of visa debit card customers complain recently about their cards being declined on our site despite there being funds available - we emailed Securepaytech and they worked some magic at their end and got it working - but we had to ask. I'd find this frustrating if it was me trying to buy stuff online.
