Let's ignore 1.4 for now; we have announced EOL for that for next spring.
(Speaking of which, we should have EOL'd 1.2 months ago).
For 1.6, we currently promise Java 7 compatibility. Wouldn't it be better to
stick with that, and recommend people who want something newer to use 1.8
instead?
