Yeah, I'll say!  I once had a bike from a very well-known manufacturer 
which
went into a horrendous high-speed wobble coming down Jay Peak in Vermont. 
 I
noticed it starting during a couple of other descents at other times and 
then
slowed right down.  That's one bike I wasn't too sad to have lost when it 
was
stolen one night.
As regards the life of steel frames, surely a bike which is regularly 
raced 
has a higher level of stress for any given number of kilometers as 
compared to
one used for general touring, so to say a particular material lasts 'x' 
years
is highly debatable.  And if one were keen enough to inject oil inside 
the 
frame tubes when the bike was new (and annually thereafter) the bike 
would 
last an incredibly long time.
