After his post and numerous familly talks we decided to send our oldest
daughter (14) on one of those trips: The Rideau Canal 11 day circuit.
It was a total success! She was very nervous about going, to the point that
she almost backed-out because she was not sure she could travel the
distance. She came back with a totally different attitude about biking. The
last day they travelled 70 km and she felt she could have done 100. She has
learned so much: safety, group riding, hydration, nutrition, etc.
She now wants to join the Sunday OBC rides, try the Gats and she is talking
about doing more cycling trips next summer.
Even if things change (they sometimes do when you are 14 :)) those 11 days
have provided her with irreplacable memories and have done wonders for her
confidence level on a bike, something she will never lose.
The organisation and the staff at Nomades were great. I highly recommand
this camp.
