I don't know that I would recommend rubber boots on this rugged tail.
Waterproofed hiking boots will do just fine.  While it is muddy and wet in
sections, especially in the lower part of the trail, it is easy to
circumvent the really wet areas.  From beginning to end, this is a fine
hiking trail - one of the best in the Gats.  Keep an eye out for some
wonderful mossy areas along side the trail - they are little beauty spots
whether bathed in sunlight or washed by rain.
