hello helen and cedric, a suburb is an area that has residential and commercial components but too often commercial interests are deemed more important than those of the residents. the implication seems to be that a single business making money is more important than the quality of life of the large number of people who live in the surrounding area and who go to work the next day to make a contribution to the businesses who employ them. this is surely a false viewpoint. hope the authorities will appreciate the needs of residents and people who do business in the areas where liquor licences are approved.
cafe hot or hot cafe is opposite the kiddies' park and is open during the day. i feel that's a sensitive environment that shouldn't allow for a liquor licence. the area of lower main road between trill and norfolk rds have been a problem for many, many years. the stretch of road and parking areas are a testament to the behaviour of patrons of adjacent drinking holes - _littered with broken glass_. i cannot park there because of the danger to my car tyres. often the glass is splattered in the road, in public space. it's never swept away or the road cleaned. even if it were, the drunken and/or unruly behaviour that gives rise to it is unacceptable. if yet another restaurant there were to be given a licence it should be limited to 9 p.m. i feel this is a reasonable hour for diners to partake of a meal with a drink. hopefully patrons would leave in a decent enough state not to toss bottles around and create a danger to passing and parking vehicles. regards, debra west Helen Swart wrote: > Hi Obs > > Please see attached applications, Cafe Hot is on the corner Station & > James opposite the kiddies park it was Mai Thai , and Ezithebeni Braai > Lounge is opposite Art Source, this too was called something else before. > > Please send your comments/objections to myself & Cllr thomas before > 27th Jan. > > My appologies to those of you who subscribe to both groups and receive > this twice. > > Helen > ----- Original Message ----- > *From:* Cedric Reginald Thomas > <mailto:[email protected]> > *To:* Roland Langley <mailto:[email protected]> ; Helen > Swart <mailto:[email protected]> ; Bovain Macnab > <mailto:[email protected]> ; Amy & John Grainger > <mailto:[email protected]> > *Cc:* Gregory Todd <mailto:[email protected]> > *Sent:* Monday, January 19, 2009 10:04 AM > *Subject:* FW: LIQUOR LICENSE APPLICATIONS > > Hi to the relevant stake holders could you please comment on the > application relevant to your precinct soonest it would be appreciated. > > I await your response it would be appreciated. > > Thanks. > > > > Yours In Community Service. > > Cllr C.R Thomas. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > *From:* Gregory Todd > *Sent:* 16 January 2009 01:53 PM > *To:* Bettie Leedo; Gregory September; Beverley Soares; Cedric > Reginald Thomas; John Jacobus Williams > *Cc:* Mariette Griessel; Brian Watkyns - Icon; Nomthandazo Sipondo > *Subject:* LIQUOR LICENSE APPLICATIONS > > > > Attached please find a copy of notices of applications fro liquor > licenses submitted to the department of Trade & Industry in term of > the Liquor Act, 1989 > > > > The notice of the applications all appeared in Government gazette No > *31739* on *20090102. *Subcouncils have the delegated authority to > comment on applications for liquor licenses within twenty eight [28] > days from publishing such applications. > > > > I look forward to your attention and prompt response as you need to > scrutinise the application in terms of the zoning scheme.
