When we had an attempted break in yesterday afternoon all our security
measures failed except our internal sliding security back door.

On arriving home we saw that our remote control car gate had been lifted off
its rail and opened. I went in and noticed the side gate had been opened so
I pressed the panic button on my ADT remote at 17:10. They arrived at 17:34.

Our sliding glass back door had been lifted out of its fitting, despite the
extra safety lock fitted. The inner security door was bent but had held - a
large garden post had been used to try and force it.

Vetus Schola arrived just before ADT. I note that they are not a response
company. Also it was evident that they had just been dealing with another
problem.

SAPS arrived at 19:10.

I have listed the problems below with the lessons learned and action in red:

* It took ADT 24 minutes to arrive after I had pressed our panic
button.

1. I will be taking up the matter of the unacceptable response time with
ADT management.

2. In terms of PSIRA regulations all cases where armed response companies
take more than 15 minutes must be reported to PSIRA. I will make sure this
incident goes on ADT's record with PSIRA.

3. We have previously looked after our local ADT representatives and
control room at Christmas - not this year.

* It took 4 telephone calls and an SMS to the Station Commander before
SAPS arrived at 19:10. Constable Ontong was off duty but tried to get a
response for us.

I am taking the matter up with SAPS management to see if we can get improved
service, in general, for Obs.

* Our sliding car gate was lifted off its rail to obtain access.

I will make sure that a piece of metal is welded onto the gate to prevent it
being lifted - soonest.

* We had taken our dog with us. This may have been noticed by someone
watching the house.

We should have left her at home as a deterrent.

* The ONW radio system was not working because of a problem with the
repeater. It was the first time this has happened since installation.

I already have this in hand.

* Our alarm system did not detect the intruder. The 2 alarm beams in
the garden are set too high so as not to be activated by the dog and are
probably too obvious.

I will find a good alarm supplier and improve our system.

* We are too regular in our movements. I always collect my wife at the
same time.

We will vary our movements.

As you can probably tell, I am angry.
