A CT tour operator intends bringing out to South Africa next year a group of
40 organists from the UK who will - apart from doing the normal tourist
activities - visit a number a churches with interesting organs in the Cape
Peninsula. I assist them in arranging some of the events, including a dinner
on their last night: being organists, what better fun suggestion than an old
church now used as a restaurant - Obsessions in Lower Main?

Just received this from the operator:

"I have heard from two Organ Club members in England who are coming on the
Tour that they have read the "bad" stories in the English papers of some of
the restaurants, bars and clubs in Obs at night time, and would not wish to
be there at that time of evening. I would concede with that, after having
read the "Weekend Argus" on the same matter, and am sure the Club's officers
would not wish to "endanger" its members on that last evening"

What appears - to me - to be most bizarre factor in the present celebration
of lawlessness, is that a large number, if not the majority, of owners and
patrons visiting the clubs and bars in Observatory, do NOT live in
Observatory.

Kind regards

People in Obs really need to be more informed about what goes on in their
community. I strongly suggest that efforts are made to increase awareness of
this website and the other Obs community websites to keep residents up to
speed with what goes down in the area. The report in the week-end paper did
not go unnoticed by potential investors and unless the c...@p in Lower Main
Road is brought under control, people are going to shy away from buying
property and the prices of homes are going to come under severe pressure.
A few years ago I successfully shut down three troublesome night clubs
single-handedly, by applying pressure on the landlord, and since then it
appears as though things have once again taken a turn for the worse.
People need to take ownership of their community and get involved.
Hiding behind high walls, burglar bars and private security whilst the
criminal elements run amock in the streets, clubs and pubs, is not going to
win this war.
The few individuals who are working at the coalface need support.
As for the Metro Police Acadummy in the middle of Obs, who do Jacksh*t when
it comes to crime prevention on their own doorstep, it's time for them to
ship out, and turn the building into a fully functional law enforcement
office.
What about the CYCLOPS CCTV cameras that are in place in Observatory?
Are they tuned in to 7de Laan and Muvhango, or Supersport on the week- ends?
CYCLOPS is blind. They see nothing, they do nothing.
What a lot of boloney.
