Doug,
A very small group of people have stepped up to attempt to address this issue and frankly if it is to achieve some headway many more volunteers from the community are required. You could make a visible difference by joining NNAG and or The Observatory Neighbourhood Watch. Both of whom are working towards stabilizing the chaotic liquor license proliferation in Observatory (including as per a previous posting the 'collateral damage'). The issues should be cut and dried, but, they arent. More active members will add vital weight to resolving them (issues) and maintaining a semblance of accountability with the law keepers, who are currently, _/under performing,/_ to express it as mildly as possible,

It is time that we the residents of Observatory are to be considered when these
decisions are made, and our protests taken note of. We have to put up with the
noise, drunken abuse, damage to our properties as well as making it unsafe to
walk around the centre of Obs late at night without being accosted by someone
drunk or stoned out of their minds. I now drive if I need to be somewhere in
Obs after dark and just before dawn when I am on my way to church. This was
never the case when I moved into Obs 15 years ago.

Subject: [obsnw] The Western Cape Liquor Board

The Western Cape Cape Liquor Board needs to be held accountable for their contribution to
the rampant abuse of alcohol in Observatory. May I suggest that the OCA, ONW, OBSID,
SAPS, Metro Police, City of Cape Town and the Premier of the Western Cape, meet with this
"rubber stamp" and lay down the law regarding liquor licences.
This community needs to be informed and involved in these decisions, and should
have the right to veto any liquor license application. The biggest stakeholders
are the community, and their collective interests far outweigh any troublesome
liquor license.
Brian Gray.
