Hi all, sorry for the lengthy post...

I just skimmed over the above comments and couldn't help but think of
a possible solution that might lay the foundations for an organised
recycling program, while also taking a stab at solving the
'harvesting' mess problem:

If we can establish which items are desirable to the harvesters, then
we could keep these items separate from the general waste which gets
collected and put them out in a separate disposable container -
cardboard box? plastic bag? i say disposable because a permanent box
will no doubt be...err... harvested. I expect that many of these items
will be recyclable and will make their way to the appropriate depot,
which is a positive move.

Since these desirable items are no longer IN the bin, the bin won't
need to be pilfered. Of course, it may take time for the harvesters to
catch on, if at all.

I foresee that many will respond that doing the above makes more
appealing to the undesirables but I suspect that there is a hierarchy
within the bergie world that will restrict new vagrants from edging in
on the obs-bergie's turf.

There are certainly some holes in the above, but it won't require much
more work from our side. And who knows? It might get the ball rolling
for a concerted recycling/upliftment program. Either way, it will only
really work if it's a concerted effort.

I welcome any comments/suggestion/critique/insults etc.
