Hi Obs

I have enquired via the SAPS Woodstock CID and confirmed that a reply will
be extended in due course concerning parameters of the investigation.

Re Cyclops, it was confirmed with SAPS, that for the past 4 years or so,
that the investigator of each serious crime incident, as requirements of his
investigation, has to visit and view for any Cyclops footage. As we already
know, sadly, either there was no coverage, coverage too poor to identify
suspects or situations, or footage not sufficient to proceed to Court with.

James

Hi all,

I have queried and the cameras were indeed working. There is a lot of
legality around the footage - this can not be viewed by the public. Footage
being used by an investigation is off limits and to acquire footage, one
needs to go through a long legal process (e.g. costly).

We trust that the SAPS are on it as there is 'no access due to
investigation'.

In the cases where an incident happens and OPS are quick enough to see it in
progress, they are able to contact the CCTV control room and then ask to
track specific descriptions - thus this is the use that community
organizations have from these CCTV cameras.

Best,

Ancois

I agree it certainly does raise several questions. The whole affair smacks
of either police incompetence, or collusion from different parties to keep
the truth from emerging - as with the gang connections and speculation
around that - who will know?

The cynic in me says we will never know because of the connections with the
murky underworld in CTN! Unless some enterprising and fearless hack is
able to uncover what really happened...

Long after the Barmooda fire, we still have no clear answers, or even a
clear description of what happened! The Obslife report is evidence of this.

Could the ONW or the Subforum and the CPF perhaps ask some questions?

I have stopped expecting the seven Cyclops cameras in Obs tp provide any
useful information, but I must point out that there is a Cyclops camera
opposite the entrance to Barmooda on the corner of Lower Main and Station.

(1) If this was working it should have recorded the whole event.

(2) if it was being monitored from the Control Room someone should have seen
what was happening and alerted SAPS and the FIre Brigade.

Did either of these things happen? If not, why not?

I am sure it would be in the public interest to provide some answers!
