Hi all

This conversation has been really interesting to far, but it would be great
if we didn't blame the victim for the crime: someone gets broken into
because someone else decided to commit crime and enter their house and
commit theft, not because they didn't have an alarm (or didn't have burglar
bars or slept with open windows at night etc) - for every crime, there's a
perpetrator and a victim, and the only person that can be blamed for the
crime is the perpetrator, not the victim.

There are many reasons why most Obs residents don't have an alarm.
Financial reasons are certainly a major reason, just as the fact that they
already pay for SAPS and OBSID and consider that that should be sufficient.
Of course we all know it's not, but best would be to try and get a positive
and constructive message across the neighbourhood to encourage more
residents to get an alarm. But certainly not blame those who decide not to
get an alarm for the crime situation in the neighbourhood.

Thanks
Gwen
