I wonder why there hasn't been a more interactive form of list/email developed 
and popularized.  Automated spam isn't going to be able to circumvent a simple 
"sender-password" very easily.  For example, we see these online-ordering forms 
that display an image with a distorted password.  Or even a known list password 
would work, i.e., on the OctaveForge web page show the password clear as day.  
Or even better, personal passwords, i.e., when someone subscribes to a list 
s/he supplies a simple password that must be supplied whenever an email is sent 
to the list.
