There are issues between Koen and Familiar and I'm not going to get
drawn into discussing it as both sides have probably done things which
have upset the other. Various people, me included have asked Koen to try
drop the issue but its not happened :-(.
At the end of the day Koen is a single OE developer and there are others
of us who don't share his view of familiar. Lets try and keep that
isolated from Familiar's future SCM plans etc.
I am slightly concerned that all the 0.8.4 changes haven't been checked
into the familiar branch for the obvious reasons but I'm trusting the
Erik will take care of that.
As for changes into .dev, this one is tricky and I face a similar
problem with poky. For reference, Koen has had a similar discussion with
me about changes flowing from poky back to OE so in that sense he's not
just picking on Familiar. It is a valid request although for anyone
who's tried it, its not easy to do at all.
For anyone who's interested I have a script that I wrote recently to
help me check efl/e17 changes into one branch from another. Basically
it works like this:
1) delete efl/e17 dirs from target branch
2) copy efl/e17 dirs from source to target
3) run script on efl/e17 dirs in target, capture output
4) look over output to be sure that nothing is being done that isn't wanted
5) run monotone commands
http://oe.reversefold.com/migrateEFL.phps
The script is written in PHP, my scripting language of choice, and
will only run with PHP5 at the moment. It also abuses the fact that
all e17/efl packages always have the same format of version #'s (this
is probably true of most other packages). It also assumes that there
will only be one version of each program in a directory.
So, in short, it's not useful for nearly all situations people will
run into in OE. But if it's useful let me know and perhaps I can
update it.
Another option would be to create a pseudo monotone-patch that could
read the rename/delete output that monotone puts in a patch and run
the appropriate monotone commands. This shouldn't be too hard at all,
in fact...
