There is no external Volume control on the
Dell.
I increased the volume control (in the icon tray)
and also in the Settings/Multimedia thingy, to their maximum
levels.
(Also figured out how to get the computer to stay
on with the lid closed!)
These together made a significant difference - but
not enough to make it acceptable - the volume control on the Car stereo has to
be so high that the hum level is unacceptable.
Having all the computer controls wound right up
also introduces an audible level of distortion.
Maybe it was not meant to be. I gues I could
always look at poking the signal through a pre-amp - but the idea was supposed
to be a cheap music source!
