Well I have been in a similar position Mark where I have Jetstream and Jetstart for over 3 years. We recently moved, and ever since then, (and I am now closer to the exchange) I will get it dropping out. It starts about 9:30pm, and continues till around 1-2am. It has been know to drop PPP up to 16 times in a night. Commonly around 5-8 times. I have been on to Telecom and Paradise who are my provider. The extreamly weired thing is, it NEVER happened before, and now its just crazy. We have had a dry spell here in CHCH and it has not lost PPP in a couple of days ! I notice when its wet or windy. Telecom tried to tell me that they don't see any connections dropping, so I cold booted the router when on the phone to them, and they didn't even see it happen which they should because the connection was lost. It was at this time I realised Telecom were up to their old tricks. The problem is 2 fold. (1). I am conviced that the cable somewhere is faulty but telecom said their test on it was ok...that was a fine weather test tho and (2). I have an Ausus extenal modem that has been fine for nearly 2.5 years has the latest firmware, but another guy at work had the same problem. He borrowed an Alied Tensin on one from work, and has had no problems what so ever.
Telecom are changing the echanges to have the ASLAM's like you meation. Mine had had it, and that's when my problem started. THAT TELECOM you ...... So and so's ! They should atleast TOLD people they might experience problems ! The whole thing has left me quite hacked off to be honest. FWIW, I recently had similar trouble with a new install using a Dlink DSL504 ADSL router, and the relatively clueful person from Xtra-helpdesk (yes, clueful, I kid you not) informed me there'd been some trouble with that model, particularly with the new ASLAM's going into exchanges (vs the old DSLAM's) so it's just possible that the problems started because they switched to an ASLAM. ...the fix in my case was to upgrade the firmware on the router, but apprently I had the encapsulation wrong as well, and switched from LLC to PC-MUX or something like that. Hmm, just doing a bit of research I find http://www.orcon.net.nz/help/kb/ADSL/DLINK/ and it says upgrading the firmware prob wasn't necessarily a great idea, and there is a better way. Oh well. No idea if your modem has a similar problem or not. -- Seth Wagoner Webfoundry Ltd PO Box 13181 Suite 33, Hotel Off The Square 115 Worcester St DDI +64-3-3740025 Cell +64-21-254-7971 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- New Zealand Delphi Users group - Offtopic List - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Website: http://www.delphi.org.nz To UnSub, send email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with body of "unsubscribe offtopic" Web Archive at: http://www.mail-archive.com/offtopic%40delphi.org.nz/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Zealand Delphi Users group - Offtopic List - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Website: http://www.delphi.org.nz To UnSub, send email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with body of "unsubscribe offtopic" Web Archive at: http://www.mail-archive.com/offtopic%40delphi.org.nz/
