I am on a laptop mainly because I travel around client offices quite a lot and
just take everything with me. Thats also a risk so full PC backups are
essential!

I see in the last year laptops outsold desktops for the first time. Desktops
are more bangs for the bucks, and about twice as reliable, but the difference
is little these days. For under $2K one has a large choice of better brand
laptops (Toshiba/HP/Sony/Acer) with as much memory and processor grunt as one
would want for any standard operation.

What brands have others liked?

Sony has been the best in my experience. 2.3Ghz Duo Core processor. Vista can
max out the CPU but nothing I do tends to ;)

I also prefer to have a PC not too much more powerful than my clients. Thats a
sure way to avoid wiiting software with bad performance bottlenecks - better I
find it out first.
