It's all in the laptop. I use a dell xps 1730 with 4 gig of ram, 2 hard drives, a dual core cpu and sli capable video card (the video card is not for programming :) ). I liked it so much I got a second one. I also use an external 24" monitor for when I want some dual monitor action.
I run my work one on vista 64 and my home one on W7x64. All the power of a desktop + (limited) portability.
