I agree, ViewSonic ones are pretty damn good. We got one, now we have 5 ! 
I have the VG712s which is a 12ms response time LCD and it has also got VGA
and DVI inputs as well as 2 speakers just inder the screen, AND, they are
not too bad ! I was quite surprised how good they sounded !
I THINK I paid around $430 +gst (from Dove electronics at cost price) which
was not bad for when I got it, about 10 mths ago.

I recently got a new grfx card with DVI output, and MAN that makes a
difference !

So I would recommend an LCD with a quick response time, and use DVI as it
makes the display quicker and def. sharper.
