Yes definitely a "brand name" as Zespri are not the only company handling Kiwis, It's kind of like calling Kiwis "Satara" (another major kiwi company)

I think Zespri as a name was dreamed up so that the marketers would have a lot more control over the brand internationally than they did with the "standard" kiwifruit. Would be more identifiable with NZ, less chance of consumers getting confused with "inferior" overseas-produced kiwifruit, etc. Well, that's my vague understanding anyways.
